The girl you just called fat.. She's overdosing on diet pills. The girl you just called ugly.. She spends hours putting makeup on hoping people will like her. The boy you just tripped.. He is abused enough at home. See that man with the ugly scars.. He fought for his country. That guy you just made fun of for crying.. His mother is dying.

Bullying

BULLYING
                          By Lisa Jeanne Simpson

It is all over the internet, the new stations; there are even commercials about it. It, is bullying, and it is killing people, yes, killing people! Bullying causes, such despair a person will commit suicide.
The bullying we hear about in the media, mostly about our school-aged children, grades 6 through 9 with a smaller percentage in grades 10 through 12. The "clique" terrorizes these children because they are different in a small way.
We have all seen bullying, or been a part of it in some manner in our life. Over the generations, however, it has escalated into much more than just name-calling. Kids make death threats, chase down their victim, and even beat on them; there are so many other forms of bullying done, it is indescribable. Looking back, just the name-calling was bad, but not considered bullying, though it should have been.
WHERE ARE THE TEACHERS?  WHERE ARE THERE GUIDANCE COUNSELORS? I realize that children do not always tell adults when other kids are picking on them or pushing them around, but if there are siblings in the picture or any on-lookers, you would think someone could/would step up and help a child.
The other day, I was sitting in Student Services studying, for what seemed like hours for a midterm, when finally my brain had enough. There I was, people watching, book open, papers scattered and laptop waiting for my next prompt. So many new students this semester, it is usually hard to find a place to sit in the Student Service Lounge. Being an older student, I enjoy watching younger students have fun, especially in large groups. Except, this particular day, a lone student came in, obviously he recently had been disabled, a certain group was laughing at him, not out loud, but still making fun of him. Our school dictates to a large number of veterans, many disabled, for all those young people know, that man recently returned from Iraq, injured. This shows that there can be bullying at the college level, if things like this go on all over campus.
As adults, we can stop bullying by stepping up when we see or hear someone being tormented. There is power in numbers and together we can put an end to bullying. Picking on the "chubby"kid is bullying!  Making fun of the girl with last year's clothes is still bullying. "Outing" the gay guy in gym class is bullying! If you see somebody doing this to a child or another kid - stand-up to them, they will back down!

Gay Friendly States

Do you live in one of the gay-friendly states or one of the homophobic ones?

When ranked in order of their laws which are considered to be either beneficial or detrimental to gays and lesbians, two lists of US states:

The 10 Most Homophobic States:
1) North Dakota
2) Arkansas
3) Ohio
4)
South Carolina (Where I am beginning my mission)5) South Dakota
6) Alabama
7) Georgia 8) Oklahoma
9) Idaho
10) Michigan

The 10 Most Gay-Friendly States:
1) Massachusetts
2) Iowa
3) Maine
4) Vermont
5) Connecticut
6) Washington
7) Hawaii 8) California
9) Oregon
10) New York

States on these two lists were ranked first by whether they recognize gay marriage. Secondly they were ranked by whether they recognize civil unions. Lastly, they were ranked by how many GLBT classes are protected in their hate crime laws. In any case where two states were too similar to rank, the population of GLBT persons in that state was considered as a factor. For mor info:

Gay Texas 13-Year-Old Asher Brown Shoots Himself

There is no good news in this story. None. It’s sad, and it’s endemic of the nightmares today’s LGBT youth continue to face every. single. day. Asher Brown, a 13-year-old eighth grader at Hamilton Middle School outside Houston, shot himself in the head last week after being “bullied to death.”

Asher was tormented for being small. For his religious beliefs. For the way he dressed. And for being gay. His bullies acted out mock gay sex acts in phys ed class.

"For the Bible Tells Me So"

Everyone loves a video from time to time. I love this one. My son shared this with me. I was raised Catholic, still Catholic with a modern outlook; I raised my boys to be good Christians, allowing them to choose their own religion, Catholic, Baptist or Church of Christ (the church I brought them too as babies). Naturally, it worried my son when mean people claim that the "homosexuals" are going to hell.  God made love, and we cannot choose who we fall in love with.
